Peter Gosselin Fitzgerald (born October 20, 1960) was the junior United States Senator from Illinois from 1999 until 2005. He is a member of the Republican Party. He previously served in the Illinois Senate from 1992 to 1998

Senator Fitzgerald announced his retirement in 2004 and Democratic rising star Barack Obama won his seat in a landslide against Republican Alan Keyes.
