New Caledonia a.k.a. Nouvelle-Calédonie, a.k.a. Kanaky, a.k.a. Le caillou is a French overseas territory in the South Pacific. The name Caledonia is from the Latin name for modern Scotland. The largest island in the territory is Grande Terre, which has the planet's second largest barrier reef: 1,600 km.s. Smaller islands and island groups include the Loyalty Islands, Isle of Pines and Belep. Nouméa is the capital and largest city in the territory.
