Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann is the Republican who represents Minnesota's 6th district in the U.S. House. She took 50% of the votes in the 2006 general election, defeating Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party candidate and child safety advocate Patty Wetterling and the Independence Party candidate John Binkowski.

Bachmann is a tax attorney who spent six years in the Minnesota State Senate. She tried to repeal Minnesota's Estate Tax. Bachmann and other local parents founded the first K-12 charter school in the nation, New Heights Charter School, which is still operating in Stillwater today. Bachmann's educational policy positions match those of the social conservative groups Maple River Education Coalition, now called EdWatch, and the Minnesota Family Institute (MFI).

Michele and her husband Marcus currently reside in Stillwater, Minnesota, with their five children. They have also hosted 23 foster children. The family attends Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater.
