Marijuana Party of Canada

From dKosopedia

The Marijuana Party is a Canadian political party that aims to end cannabis prohibition. Beyond the exception of this one issue, the party does not have "official policy" in any other policy realm. Marijuana Party candidates are free to express their positions on all other political issues-even when such views contradict the personal opinions of other Marijuana Party candidates or the party leadership.

The party was founded by Marc-Boris St-Maurice, an activist and member of the group Grim Skunk. After his 1991 arrest for possession, St-Maurice vowed to work for the legalization of cannabis. On February 28, 2005 he joined the Liberal Party in order to work for liberalized marijuana laws from within the governing party. Blair T. Longley became the new Party Leader following St-Maurice's resignation.
