Lloyd Doggett

From dKosopedia

Lloyd Alton Doggett II (Born October 6, 1946) Represents the TX-25. A Democrat, Doggett is easily one of the most liberal representatives from a southern state in Congress.

Originally hailing from Austin, Doggett opted to run in the sprawling 25th after the re-redistricting scheme of Tom DeLay split his Travis County district into three new districts, the most democratic of which was the 25th, stretching from inner Austin to the Mexican border.

Doggett formerly served as a state senator from Travis County, and ran against Phil Gramm for the U.S. Senate in 1984, losing 58% to 41%. Doggett replaced an outgoing Democrat in the 1994 elections, and has been re-elected easily ever since.

In a 2006 court decision, Doggett's district was redrawn slightly, pushing somewhat more of his old base of Austin back into his district.
