John Barrow is the Democratic Representative for Georgia's House District 12. Before going to Congress, he served Athens-Clarke County as District 4 Commissioner.

Barrow was born and raised in Athens, Georgia, where his father was the judge who presided over the desegregation of the Athens Public Schools and his mother taught political science at the University of Georgia. John is a graduate of the Athens Public Schools, where he was a member of the first integrated graduating class. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Gridiron Secret Society. John graduated from Harvard Law School in 1979. After clerking for a several federal judges, John returned home to Athens and became a founding partner in the law firm of Winburn, Lewis, and Barrow. In 2004, John became one of only two Democrats in the entire country to defeat an incumbent Republican, and he did it in a state that George W. Bush carried by 8 points.
