Biographical Information

Vital Statistics:

Born August 17, 1940, and raised in Erwin, TN, David currently lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with his wife, Lisa. They have two grown children, Karen and Michael. David received his undergraduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill and then went on to Yale University for a Bachelor of Divinity Degree and a Ph.D. in Political Science. Before he began serving in Congress in 1986, David was a professor of Political Science and Public Policy at Duke University.

Current and Past Committee Service:

David currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee, including two of its subcommittees: Department of Homeland Security and Military Quality of Life/Veterans Affairs. Previously, David served on the House Budget Committe and is current co-chair of the Democratic Budget Group.
