Cecil Heftel

Cecil Heftel, a member of the Hawaii State Board of Education, is one of the six Oahu At-Large members on the board. Heftel was elected to the BOE in 2004.

Heftel is well-know to the Hawaii populace as an owner of various TV and radio stations and as a representative of the 1st Representative District to the US Congress. Heftel was first elected to the US Congress in 1976 and served until his resignation in July 1986 to run, unsuccessfully, in the race for Governor of the state of Hawaii.

Born in Chicago, Cook County, Ill., September 30, 1924, Heftel attended the public schools of Chicago, Ill. Heftel earned his B.S. from Arizona State University, Tempe, in 1951 and did graduate work at University of Utah and New York University.
